Accommodations

As just about all of you will be coming in from out of town for our “destination” wedding in Milwaukee, we wanted to make sure we found you good accommodations options at different price points.

Option #1: Budget Traveler

We reserved a block of rooms at Straz Tower, a Marquette University dormitory. These really are a great option for those wanting to stay close to downtown without spending a lot of money. They are especially good for groups of 2-4 people who can share a room. Here are some other perks:
-The rooms all have private bathrooms with showers
-There are great views of downtown Milwaukee, with some lake views (request a room the 18th floor for the best views)
-There is a fitness center and pool you can use for only $5 extra.
-Parking is only $6 per day.
-Walk to Amtrack station, downtown Milwaukee, and several museums.
-The more people you go together with on a room, the cheaper it is. For a group of 4, it is $20 per person. All beds are twins, but could be pushed together.

Contact Carrie directly and mention the Huckabay-Lipke Wedding Block to book one of the rooms they’ve set aside for us.

Not too shabby!

Option #2:  The Happy Median

Technically a Days Inn, the Hotel of the Arts feels more like a boutique hotel.  It’s only 6 months old, so everything is shiny and new. Plus, they have taken into account lots of green features in its construction, so we feel good about giving them business. Some more perks:

-Free Parking
-Free Shuttle to and from the airport or train station. The shuttle can also be used to take groups of 7 to the wedding venues and back, as long as you set it up in advance.
-The standard rooms are $89, but they also have suites that would be perfect for a family with a kid or two for about $129, as well as handicap accessible rooms.
-The location is west of the river and about a 10 minute drive from the lake and downtown Milwaukee. However, it is only 1.5 miles south from the reception venue.

Call the reservations line and mention the Huckabay-Lipke Wedding Block to book one of the rooms they’ve set aside for us.

Option #3: The Eco-friendly Boutique Hotel in the center of everything

Hotel Metro is right in the middle of downtown, perfect if you like a little luxury and want to be able to easily walk to the lake and the art museum. Some of the many perks:
-Rooftop garden, fitness center, salt water hot tub.
-Most rooms have awesome Jacuzzi tubs.
-Parking is $25 per day, but there are complimentary bicycles available for guest use and a complimentary Metro cab powered by soy certified biodiesel.

Single or double occupancy prices:
Thursday $169 | Friday or Saturday $189
+ Occupancy tax which is 14.6%.

Other options:

They don’t do wedding blocks, but we highly recommend the County Claire. They are an Irish bed and breakfast north of downtown in a pretty residential area very close to the lake. The rooms are nice, with enormous bathtubs, and downstairs is a restaurant with great Irish food and live music on the weekends.

I’ve done several searches for the cheapest option for that weekend in the area, and the Motel 6 and Howard Johnson by the airport come up as $53/night. The Airport is about 8 miles south of the reception venue.
